Course Overview
The Clinical/Content Chair Course (CCC) is designed for clinicians and other content experts who will serve as chair of guideline development groups. This course provides essential training to lead a group effectively in collaboration with a certified methodologist.
Why Require Certification for Clinical/Content Chairs?
Guideline-producing organizations are increasingly requiring certification for panel chairs because:
• Chairs may have content expertise but lack familiarity with best practices in evidence-based guideline development methodology.
• Effective chairing requires an understanding of group facilitation, decision-making, and collaboration with methodologists to uphold methodological rigor.
Certification ensures that Clinical/Content Chairs can competently lead panels while adhering to internationally recognized standards.
Prerequisites
Completion of Course 1 “Certified Guideline Panel Member” is required prior to enrolling in this course.
Benefits of Certification
• Organizations can verify that potential panel chairs have completed core training in guideline development leadership.
• Ensures that chairs are equipped to lead group discussions, manage dynamics, and maintain the integrity of the development process.
• Certified Chairs are trained to collaborate with a methodologist to ensure full alignment with evidence-based methods.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the Clinical/Content Chair Course, learners will be able to:
• Be a leader in the creation of trustworthy health guidelines/recommendations through the perspective of a guideline development group chair who has content knowledge.
• Understand that a guideline chair is primarily responsible for the guideline development group’s adherence to the recommended methods and processes and thereby the process that leads to trustworthy recommendations.
